Xi'an, anciently known as Chang'an and Haojing, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Province, is the capital of Shaanxi Province, a sub-provincial city, a megacity, and a national central city, located in the northwestern part of the People's Republic of China, in the middle of Guanzhong Plain, bordered by the Weihe River in the north and the Qinling Mountains in the south. Xi'an is one of the first batch of national famous historical and cultural cities announced by the State Council, where more than ten dynasties have built their capitals in history, and it is one of the four major ancient capitals of China , and one of the four major ancient capitals of the world, and one of the capitals with the most number of dynasties, the longest period of time, and the most influential capitals in the history of China.

Xi'an is the core city of the Xi'an Metropolitan Area and the Guanzhong Plain City Cluster, an important central city in western China as approved by the State Council, and an important national scientific research, education and industrial base. There are two six heritage sites on the World Heritage List, namely the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang and the Terracotta Warriors, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, the Ruins of Daming Palace of the Tang Dynasty Chang'an City, the Ruins of Weiyang Palace of the Han Dynasty Chang'an City and the Pagoda of Xingjiao Temple. There are also other attractions such as Xi'an City Wall, Bell and Drum Towers, Huaqing Pond, Zhanshan Mountain, Datang Hibiscus Garden, Shaanxi History Museum, and the Forest of Steles. Xi'an is home to seven ‘double first-class’ universities, including Xi'an Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University and Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology.
